Bike ride around Lombok
After a week on Gili Islands we wanted to have a look at Lombok.
We had herd that
a great way to go around was on a bike. Since they were not familiar with Swedish licenses
or maybe not any drivers licence at all it was not hard to get a couple of bikes in Mataram
(capital city of Lombok).Karin did not want to try her luck since she had not ridden a bike before.
So I and Chris left for a great journey.First along the west coast with beautiful beaches and narrow steep roads.
Lombok was compared to Bali not very influenced by the tourism.

So people were a lot more friendly than in Bali.
Without the same obvious financial intentions. This made it sometimes a lot harder to get around. Harder to get food and
find places to stay but more exciting. When we reached the north coast we headed inland for a small village known to have good accommodation.
Every time we stopped there was always someone that came up to us.

Proud to be able to speak English
and happy if they could assist us in any way. Finally we found a cottage were we could stay and get some good food.
The air was full of white giant beetles swarming all over us. In the morning we went to a huge waterfall right by.
Cold and extremely hard on our heads and shoulders but very refreshing. Unfortunately I could not get it all in two pictures.
Then we headed south over the mountains were the roads were sided by monkeys.

| If you ride a bike in Lombok you have to watch out for big wholes in the road and heaps of animals
like dogs,chickens, goats and so on that were walking freely everywhere. We managed to get down to the south coast to Kuta.!.
Yes Kuta in Lombok that was their comparison to Bali Kuta only a lot less exploited. But one could see how they were preparing for
a lot of tourism and a lot of big complexes were starting to grow. |
