Margeret River famous for it's big consistant waves and benuine surfbumm society. The place seemed to be picked out of a Rip Curl advert.
Everyone seemed to live for the waves and expressions like full time work and vacation did not seem to exist in the local language. |

MainBreak Margeret The first thing you notice when you get here is the somewhat special agegroup of the surfers.
Usually you see young talanted guys ripping the waves but not here. I'd say the avarage age would be around 35 to fourty. And certainly not old lazy men no this was place with demanding coditions
with a high possibility of getting seriously injured if a misstake was made.

These guys were hard and seemed to have the 30 years of experieince that this spot demanded behind them.
In the afternoon the wind usually picks up and the surfers come in when the windies start heading out.
Unfortunately the local windsurfers here seem somewhat inpatient whith unexperienced tourists which has given them a quite bad reputation which from what I've heard from many friends seems to be true.

We were lucky to end up here when the australian wavechamps were held. A good way to learn the carachteristics of the place. Unfortunately this kept us from sailing the mainbreak but there were
many places just as big along the coast. Boatramp for instance a couple of km east of mainbreak offered us a real test of our waveskills. Small keywholes and reefs that really sucked dry gave us some tuff adventures.

We stayed in the area for a week and tried some of the many winetasting vineyards in the area. Huge caves and an exciting vegitation mad this place special place even off the water. |

The last day Quentin forward looped his board in two pecies. This after totally wrecking his car and scraping his fin till infinity on the black reefs. |
